Dant: Tooth Fairy Journal
Last updated: 19 October 2026
Dant is a journal for your children’s milk teeth, for iPhone and iPad. It is made by Gruffydd Johnston, an independent developer (“I”, “me”). This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes.
In short
- Your children’s names, birthdays, teeth, photos, notes and stories stay on your iPhone or iPad. I never receive them.
- There’s no account to make, no advertising and no tracking. Nothing is sold.
- The app counts how it’s used, anonymously, with TelemetryDeck, so I can make it better.
- Dant Plus is sold through the App Store. Apple handles every purchase; the app checks what you own with Apple, on your device.
Your family’s information stays on your device
Everything you add is stored in the app on your device: each child’s name, birthday and photo, the teeth they’ve lost and when, gap-tooth smiles and other photos, what the night visitor brought, where each tooth is now, and your notes and stories. Letters, certificates, the keepsake book and share cards are made on your device too.
Dant only sees the photos you give it. When you choose from your library, iOS shows you your photos and passes Dant only the ones you pick. The camera is used only when you tap Take photo.
The Dant widgets show a small summary, such as how many teeth have been lost, which the app keeps on your device for them.
When information leaves your device
- Your device’s backups. If you back up your iPhone or iPad, for example to iCloud or to your computer, Dant’s data is included like any other app’s, under your control.
- Things you share. When you share a card, a letter, the keepsake book or an export of your data, it goes only where you choose to send it.
- Reminders. Tooth-night and wobbly-tooth reminders are notifications scheduled on your device. They are not sent from a server.
- Anonymous usage statistics. Dant uses TelemetryDeck to count how the app is used: for example, that setting up was finished, that a tooth was added and whether it had a photo, or that the Dant Plus screen was opened. Each signal also carries general details such as the app version, iOS version, type of device and language. TelemetryDeck doesn’t collect names, email addresses or locations, and the identifier it uses is anonymised before it leaves your device. The statistics never include your children’s names, birthdays, photos, notes or stories.
- Purchases. Dant Plus subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are sold through the App Store. Apple handles payment, so I never see your payment details, name or Apple Account. The app checks with the App Store, on your device, whether you have Dant Plus; no other company is involved. If you downloaded Dant before version 2.0, the app reads Apple’s record of your original download, on your device, to give you Dant Plus free as a founding family.
- Crash reports. If you’ve chosen in your device’s settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may share crash reports from Dant with me. These don’t include your family’s information.
- Email. If you email me, I receive your email address and your message, and use them only to reply.
Apple’s own handling of App Store purchases, backups and crash reports is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
What Dant doesn’t do
Dant has no accounts and shows no advertising. It doesn’t use your location, doesn’t track you across other apps or websites, and doesn’t sell or share your information with anyone.
Keeping and deleting your information
Your family’s information stays on your device until you delete it. You can mark a tooth as not lost, delete a photo or note, or delete a child with all their teeth, photos and notes in Settings. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device. At any time, Settings › Export your data gives you a zip of every tooth, note and photo.
The anonymous usage statistics are kept by TelemetryDeck and can’t be linked back to you. Your purchases are kept by Apple with your Apple Account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to ask what information is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to how it’s used. As your family’s information never leaves your device, I hold none of it. I use the anonymous statistics because it’s in my legitimate interest to understand how the app is used and improve it. TelemetryDeck processes them on my behalf. Requests about purchases made through the App Store go to Apple, which holds them.
Children
Dant is made for parents and carers to keep a record of their own children’s milk teeth. It isn’t directed at children and doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children: what you record about your children stays on your device.

Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new “last updated” date, and significant changes will be mentioned in the app’s release notes.
